Which of the following best describes the status of no-fault Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage in Georgia?
APIP is mandatory on every auto policy issued in Georgia
BPIP must be offered but the insured may reject it in writing
Georgia repealed no-fault PIP in 1991
DPIP is available only through the Georgia Assigned Risk Plan
Why this is the answer
Georgia is a tort-based (at-fault) state for automobile claims. The no-fault Personal Injury Protection provisions of the Georgia Motor Vehicle Accident Reparations Act were repealed effective October 1, 1991; the Act (Chapter 34 of Title 33) now governs compulsory liability coverage and optional coverages such as Medical Payments. Since then, an injured party recovers medical expenses and lost wages from the at-fault driver's liability policy or from optional first-party coverages such as Medical Payments and UM/UIM. No PIP coverage is required on a Georgia policy.
