After a Georgia homeowners policy has been in force for more than 60 days, what is the minimum number of days of advance written notice the insurer must give the insured for a mid-term cancellation for nonpayment of premium?
10 days
B5 days
C30 days
D45 days
Why this is the answer
Georgia homeowners cancellation rules come from two sections. O.C.G.A. § 33-24-46 limits cancellation after a policy has been in effect more than 60 days to nonpayment of premium, fraud or material misrepresentation, a change in the risk that substantially increases a hazard insured against, or violation of material policy terms, and requires notice under § 33-24-44. Section 33-24-44 sets the notice: generally at least 30 days, but only 10 days when the cancellation is for nonpayment of premium or the policy has been in effect less than 60 days. Nonrenewal requires at least 30 days' written notice (§ 33-24-46).
