A Georgia insured selects 'add-on' Uninsured Motorist coverage with limits of 100/300 over 100/300 liability. The at-fault driver carries 25/50 liability. After exhausting the tortfeasor's policy, how much UM is available to the insured per person?

A$75,000 (UM limit reduced by tortfeasor's limit)
$100,000 (full UM limit on top of tortfeasor's payment)
C$25,000 (Georgia minimum)
D$0 (UM does not apply when tortfeasor has any liability coverage)

Why this is the answer

Georgia allows two UM election methods. 'Add-on' (also called 'excess' or 'true excess') UM pays its full stated limit in addition to any amount recovered from the at-fault driver's liability policy, with no reduction for that recovery. So a 100/300 add-on UM provides the full $100,000 per person on top of the tortfeasor's $25,000 BI payment, for a total of $125,000 of available compensation per injured person.
