In Georgia, before a licensed resident producer may solicit, negotiate, or write business for a specific insurer, what additional regulatory step is required?
AThe producer must post a $10,000 surety bond with OCISF
The insurer must file an appointment of the producer with the Commissioner
CThe producer must complete an additional 8 hours of company-specific CE
DThe producer must obtain a separate surplus lines endorsement
Why this is the answer
O.C.G.A. § 33-23-26 makes the insurer (not the producer) responsible for filing an appointment with OCISF for each producer authorized to act on its behalf. The license alone permits no business; appointment binds the producer to a carrier and triggers carrier vicarious liability for solicitation activities. Terminations must likewise be reported within 30 days.
