Texas Real Estate Exam Changes 2026
Texas reorganised the sales agent state-law outline into six areas and dropped the Case Studies section, keeping 40 scored items.
The state law portion of the Texas Sales Agent examination still consists of 40 scored items plus 10 unscored pretest items. What moved is how those 40 are distributed.
The outline effective 1 January 2026 has six content areas. The previous one had seven — the extra was Case Studies, worth 10 items of narrative cases and contract forms, and it is gone.
Those 10 items did not disappear from the paper; they were redistributed. Agency/Brokerage is now the largest single area at 11 items, with Standards of Conduct and Contracts at 9 each.

What to change about how you study
- Stop drilling standalone case-study sets for the state portion; that section no longer exists as its own block.
- Put the recovered time into Agency/Brokerage — at 11 of 40 items it is now more than a quarter of the state paper on its own.
- Promulgated forms still matter, but they sit inside Contracts (9 items) rather than doubling up inside Case Studies.
