Under the ISO Personal Auto Policy (PP 00 01), an insured ACQUIRES an additional private passenger auto during the policy period and the insurer provides ALL coverages (including Part D physical damage) on at least one currently owned vehicle. For how long does the newly acquired auto receive automatic coverage before the insured must ask the insurer to insure it?

A4 days, after which physical-damage coverage on the newly acquired auto ceases automatically without notice
14 days, after which the insured must ask the insurer to insure the newly acquired auto for coverage to continue
C30 days of automatic coverage on the newly acquired auto, with no requirement to notify the insurer at all
D60 days of automatic coverage on the newly acquired auto, applying automatically and entirely without any notice

Why this is the answer

The PAP definition of "your covered auto" includes vehicles shown in the Declarations, newly acquired autos (additional or replacement), any trailer the named insured owns, and any temporary substitute. For an ADDITIONAL newly acquired auto, coverage begins on the date of ownership but the insured must ASK to insure it within 14 days. The current edition applies the same 14-day request to a REPLACEMENT auto. For physical damage, the window is 14 days if any auto shown carries that coverage and only four days if none does. See ISO PP 00 01 Definitions.
