Under M.G.L. c. 175 §99, how many days' advance written notice must a MA insurer provide before midterm cancellation of a MA homeowners policy for reasons other than non-payment?
A10 days
B20 days
C60 days
5 days
Why this is the answer
Under the standard fire policy in M.G.L. c. 175 §99, the company may cancel by giving the insured 5 days' written notice (10 days where the reason is nonpayment of premium) and the mortgagee 20 days' written notice, stating the specific reason. After the policy has been in effect 60 days, cancellation must rest on a listed ground arising after the effective date, such as nonpayment, fraud or material misrepresentation, or willful or reckless acts increasing the hazard.
