An Illinois driver was convicted of driving while uninsured, and the Secretary of State suspended their license. To reinstate driving privileges, the driver typically must file:
An SR-22 certificate of financial responsibility filed by the insurer with the Secretary of State
BA surety bond equal to twice the BI minimum
CForm FR-19 with the IDOI for three years
DA notarized affidavit of self-insurance with the local court
Why this is the answer
Drivers whose licenses are suspended for uninsured operation, DUI, or certain serious violations must file an SR-22 to reinstate driving privileges. The SR-22 is a certificate the auto insurer files electronically with the Illinois Secretary of State certifying that the driver's policy meets at least the 25/50/20 minimum and that the carrier will notify the state if the policy lapses or is cancelled. The filing requirement typically runs three years.
