Arizona Real Estate Exam Changes 2026
Arizona now gives the salesperson exam as two separate examinations — General and State — each booked, paid for, timed and scored on its own.
Before 2026 a candidate sat one Arizona salesperson examination. Since 1 January 2026 there are two, and they are separate products in the Pearson VUE catalogue: Arizona Real Estate Sales – General and Arizona Real Estate Sales – State.
Each has its own fee, its own clock and its own 75% pass mark. Passing one does not carry the other, and they can be taken on different days.
The totals are what the old single exam came to — 140 scored items over 240 minutes — so the material has not grown. What changed is that you can now fail half of it, and pay to re-sit only that half.

What to change about how you study
- Budget $130, not $75 — the two fees are charged separately and several prep sites still quote a single figure.
- Book the General part first if you are studying nationally-sourced material; the State part rewards Arizona-only study and is worth a separate push.
- Practise against the 75% line on each half independently. An average across both hides a weak half, and the exam no longer averages them.
Arizona 2026 exam questions
How many questions are on the Arizona real estate exam in 2026?
140 scored items in total, split across two examinations: 80 on the General part (plus 5 unscored pretest items, 150 minutes) and 60 on the State part (plus 5 pretest, 90 minutes). Some third-party sites state 100 for the state portion; the February 2026 Pearson VUE handbook says 60.
How much does the Arizona real estate exam cost now?
$70 for the General examination and $60 for the State examination, charged separately — $130 to sit both. There is no combined price in the current fee schedule.
Do I have to pass both Arizona parts on the same day?
No. They are separate examinations with separate reservations, and passing one does not expire the other on the day. Check the current handbook for how long a passed part stays valid before you plan a long gap.
Is the Arizona exam harder now that it is split?
The content and the 75% pass mark did not change. What changed is the failure mode: previously one score covered everything, and now a weak half fails on its own. For most candidates that is easier, because a re-sit costs one fee and one subject rather than all of it.
