Under New York's Article 51 No-Fault law, what is the standard PIP (Basic Economic Loss) limit per person, per accident?
A$25,000
B$100,000
C$10,000
$50,000
Why this is the answer
New York's no-fault statute (Article 51, NY Ins. Law § 5102(a)) caps Basic Economic Loss at $50,000 per person, per accident. The $50K aggregate covers three components: medical and health expenses, lost earnings, and other reasonable expenses (up to $25/day for one year). Insurers may not reduce or stack this limit. Optional Basic Economic Loss (OBEL) adds another $25,000, and Additional PIP (APIP) provides further supplemental layers above the statutory floor.
