Under 215 ILCS 5/224(2), what is the minimum free-look period on a replacement life insurance policy delivered in Illinois?
20 days
B10 days
C15 days
D30 days
Why this is the answer
Section 224(2) of the Illinois Insurance Code (215 ILCS 5/224(2)) requires an insurer replacing life insurance either to delay issuing its policy for at least 20 days after sending a policy summary to the existing insurer, or to give the owner a right to an unconditional refund of all premiums, exercisable within 20 days of delivery. Standard (non-replacement) Illinois individual life policies carry the 10-day free look of Section 224(1)(n). The replacement rule in 50 Ill. Adm. Code Part 917 handles the replacement notices and points insurers back to Section 224(2) for this refund right.
