On a New Jersey Standard Policy, what is the default PIP medical expense benefit limit if the insured makes no other election on the Coverage Selection Form?
A$15,000 per person per accident
$250,000 per person per accident
C$50,000 per person per accident
D$100,000 per person per accident
Why this is the answer
Under N.J.S.A. 39:6A-4.3, the Standard Policy PIP medical limit defaults to $250,000 per person per accident. The insured may elect lower limits — $15,000, $50,000, $75,000, or $150,000 — through the Coverage Selection Form to reduce premium, but coverage is capped at $250,000 except for catastrophic injuries which are covered at the full $250,000 regardless of election.
