For California life insurance reserves and nonforfeiture computations, which mortality table is the current statutory basis?
AThe 1958 CSO Table
BThe 1980 CSO Table
The 2017 CSO Table
DThe 2001 CSO Table
Why this is the answer
California's Standard Valuation Law (§§ 10489.2-10489.99) and the Standard Nonforfeiture Law (§§ 10159.1+) anchor reserve and value calculations to the prevailing Commissioners Standard Ordinary (CSO) mortality table. The 2017 CSO Table became the required basis for policies issued on or after January 1, 2020. Older tables (1958, 1980, 2001) remain valid for in-force business issued during their respective periods but are no longer the basis for new issues.
