A New York P&C licensee renews every two years. What are the minimum continuing-education hours that must be completed each biennial renewal cycle?
A10 hours total, with 1 hour of ethics
B24 hours total, with 3 hours of ethics each year
C40 hours total, with 6 hours of ethics
15 hours total, of which 3 hours must be ethics
Why this is the answer
New York licensees renew on a two-year cycle (biennial). The Department of Financial Services requires 15 hours of approved CE per renewal, and out of those 15, three hours must be in ethics-coded courses. Failing to complete CE before the renewal date results in license expiration; reinstatement requires meeting the deficient CE plus possible penalties. The 40-hour pre-licensing number is one-time, before sitting the PSI exam — not part of CE.
