Type III certification exists as a class of its own, separate from the equipment that Type II covers. What is it about a low-pressure appliance that puts it in that separate class?

What this question is testing
The candidate has to state the defining property of the low-pressure class and recognize that the vacuum operating condition, not size or hardware, is what separates it from Type II equipment.
On the job
On a low-pressure machine the technician's instincts have to flip. A vacuum-side leak shows up as air accumulating in the condenser and a purge unit running constantly, not as a hissing joint or an oily stain. Recovery brings its own problems because the machine has almost no pressure to push refrigerant into the recovery unit, so the procedures and the equipment differ from anything on the Type II side. That gap is exactly why the two certifications are separate.
Memory technique
Low pressure lives in a vacuum, so it sucks air in. High pressure pushes refrigerant out.

Every pressure class question comes back to boiling point versus room temperature. Answers built on tonnage, compressor type or assembly method are distractors.
