The 8 rules worth memorising
Not subject knowledge — that comes from practice questions. These are the procedural rules candidates lose the exam to: how the threshold is applied, what a partial fail means, and the deadlines that void a pass.

Ninety days to apply — the tightest window in the country
You must apply for the license within 90 days of passing both components. Miss it and you retake the examination. If the 90th day falls on a weekend or national holiday, the next business day is your last chance.

A second clock runs on your education
Separately, you must apply within 12 months of completing your prelicense education. Miss the education deadline and you retake the 120 hours; miss both deadlines and you retake the exam and the education.

Six months to finish the half you failed
Pass one component and fail the other and you retake just the failed one — within six months. After six months without both passed, the entire examination goes again.

Wait 24 hours before rebooking
Candidates must wait a full 24 hours after failing before making a reservation to retake, and reservations cannot be made at the test center.

Your score is scaled, not a percentage
Raw scores are converted to a scaled score, and the handbook says outright that it is neither the number nor the percentage of questions you answered correctly. Numeric scores go only to failing candidates.

Licensee practice is a third of the state component
15 to 17 of 50 items — agency, disclosures, improper practices, and the approved forms including the REPC. Definitions and the Recovery Fund together are five. The bulletin publishes ranges, not fixed counts, so treat these as weights.

No exam review, ever
For security reasons examination material is not available to candidates for review. The failing score report’s diagnostic breakdown is all you get.

Five to ten unscored pretest items
The state component carries 50 scored items plus 5 to 10 unmarked pretest items that do not count toward your score but do sit inside your time.

If you fail
Wait 24 hours, then rebook through Pearson VUE — not at the test center. Retake only the failed component, and do it within six months or the whole exam resets. Remember the 90-day application deadline starts the day you pass the second component.
