Under New York Regulation 60, after the existing insurer receives notice of a proposed replacement, what is the length of the conservation period during which it may attempt to retain the policy?

A15 days
B30 days
C60 days
45 days

Why this is the answer

11 NYCRR § 51.6(e) gives the existing insurer 45 days from the date the replacement notification is mailed to communicate with the policyowner and attempt to retain (conserve) the business. The existing insurer typically uses this window to provide its own current illustration, identify any benefits the policyowner would forfeit, and explain costs of the replacement. The 45-day clock runs from the mailing date of the replacing insurer's notice, not from the date of application. Per 11 NYCRR § 51.6(e).
