The Construction Industries Board licenses or registers only electrical, mechanical (HVAC), plumbing, roofing, home inspectors and building inspectors - roofing being a registration under the Roofing Contractor Registration Act, and a new residential roofing endorsement was added by House Bill 1628 in 2026. Everything a general contractor self-performs - site clearing and leveling, concrete stemming, framing, carpentry, drywall, painting, guttering, sodding, fencing - is unlicensed at state level.
