FL Contractor CE Requirements
Biennial Renewal
Florida contractor licenses expire on August 31 of every even-numbered year. During each 2-year renewal cycle, you must complete 14 hours of continuing education from DBPR-approved providers. Mandatory topics include Workers Compensation, Workplace Safety, Business Practices, and Advanced Florida Building Code. The remaining hours can be electives from any approved course.
Approved Providers
CE courses must be taken from DBPR-approved continuing education providers. Courses are available in-person, live webinar, and self-paced online formats. Popular providers include Gold Coast Schools, Lee Institute, and Florida Contractor University. Verify provider approval on the DBPR website before enrolling. Keep certificates of completion for at least 4 years.
Renewal Process
The renewal period opens approximately 90 days before your license expiration. Submit your renewal through the DBPR online portal with the biennial renewal fee (~$209). CE completion is verified electronically β approved providers report your hours directly to DBPR. If you miss the deadline, you may renew late with additional fees for up to one year. After that, you may need to re-apply as a new applicant, which means retaking the exam.
