About the FL General Contractor Exam
The Florida General Contractor license exam is a 3-part, 240-question test administered by PSI. You need a 70% on each part to pass. The exam is open-book with up to 15 approved reference books. Most candidates spend 3-6 months preparing.
Part 1: Business & Financial Management is the longest part (120 questions, 6.5 hours) and covers business organization, accounting, payroll taxes, HR, and government regulations. It accounts for 50% of all exam questions.
Part 2: Contract Administration (60 questions, 4.5 hours) covers estimating, contract types, liens, permits, and construction procedures.
Part 3: Project Management (60 questions, 4.5 hours) covers construction methods, materials, safety (OSHA), and blueprint reading.
