Appraiser CE Requirements Guide

AQB National Minimum

The Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) sets a national minimum of 28 hours of continuing education every 2-year renewal cycle. This includes a mandatory 7-Hour National USPAP Update course that cannot be substituted. The remaining 21 hours must be in appraisal subject matter topics from approved providers.

Qualifying Topics

Appraisal subject matter electives can include courses on sales comparison approach, income approach, cost approach, highest and best use analysis, market analysis, appraisal review, mass appraisal, fair housing, appraisal technology, and more. Courses must be from state-approved providers and meet AQB content guidelines.

State Requirements May Vary

While the AQB sets the national minimum, many states require additional CE hours or specific topic areas. For example, some states require courses in state appraisal law updates, fair housing compliance, supervisory appraiser training, or specialized property types. Always check with your state appraiser regulatory board for the exact requirements applicable to your credential level (Trainee, Licensed Residential, Certified Residential, or Certified General).
