The Four Modules
Each is its own exam with its own pass mark. Life, A&S and Seg Funds are 35 questions (30 scored); Ethics is 25 (20 scored).

How the LLQP Works
1. Course
Enrol with a CISRO-accredited course provider. Most run online; course fees vary from about $150 to $400.
2. Certification
Pass the provider's own exams for each module. The certificate is valid for one year.
3. Provincial exam
Book each module through your province's exam administrator. 75 minutes, 60% to pass, rewrites per module.
4. Licence
Apply to your provincial regulator with a sponsoring insurer and E&O insurance. In BC, all of this within 12 months of your first pass.

First-Attempt Pass Rates by Course Provider, 2025
CISRO publishes this once a year as a PDF. The national rate was 73% for Life, 76% for A&S, 76% for Seg Funds and 78% for Ethics (common law). More than half of all candidates came through two providers whose rates were the lowest in the table.

What is the LLQP?
The Life Licence Qualification Program is the national qualification for selling life insurance, accident & sickness insurance and segregated funds in Canada. You complete a course with an accredited provider, pass the provider's certification exams, then write the provincial exam in four modules. Each province's regulator issues the licence.
How many people write the LLQP each year?
In 2025, first-attempt candidates numbered 20,303 for Life, 21,599 for Accident & Sickness, 20,059 for Segregated Funds, and 22,749 for Ethics across the common-law and civil-code versions, per CISRO. Numbers grew 3–5% from 2024.
How long is the LLQP exam?
Each module is 75 minutes. Life, A&S and Seg Funds have 35 questions (30 scored); Ethics has 25 (20 scored). Modules can be written on the same day or separately.
What is the LLQP pass mark?
60% on each module. Modules are passed individually; failing one means rewriting that module only.
Is the LLQP exam open book?
The approved study material is supplied on an e-reader during the exam, per the Alberta Insurance Council. That does not make it easy: 75 minutes for 35 scenario questions leaves little time to look things up.
Which course providers have the best pass rates?
CISRO publishes first-attempt pass rates by provider. In 2025 CSI candidates passed at 99% on every module (about 490 candidates), while the two largest channels — Olivers-WFG (7,000+ candidates, 70–74%) and Primerica (2,300–3,000, 53–61%) — had the lowest rates. The full table is on this page.
